Municipality of Mogila declared as a GMO free zone

On Friday 28th November 2008 local municipality council declared Mogila as a GMO free zone. With this decision Mogila became member of the GMO free zones family in Macedonia. The decision of the council happened right after Eco-sense's presentation about the benefits of GMO free zones and potential risks of GMO contamination. In Macedonia there are 4 GMO Free zones: Veles, Caska, Ohrid and Mogila, and the number is growing.
With the financial support of several foundations: Terre Hummaine, Grassroots Foundation and Global GreenGrants Fund Eco-sense is raising public awareness about the potential risks of GMOs if released in the environment and about the threats to human health.
Additionally, Eco-sense is making sure that proper GMO legislation is in place in Macedonia by advocating for better regulations according to EU GMO legislation. At the same time Eco-sense works on promotion of GMO free zones and organic farming in Macedonia and focuses on education of farmers in rural areas.
